What makes a cover letter work

• Lead with one or two results that match the job, not a summary of your resume.
• Explain why this company and role, in your own words.
• Keep it to about half a page to one page and close with a clear next step.

A simple structure that works

Open with the role and one sentence on why you are a fit. Use the middle paragraph for two or three specific achievements that match what the job asks for, with the numbers from your resume. Finish with a short paragraph on why you want to work there and a clear next step, such as being glad to discuss the role. Three short paragraphs are usually enough, and recruiters read them faster than a long letter.

Copy the text, or download it as a Word document or plain text file. The letter is saved with the resume it belongs to, so each application keeps its own version.
